For a long time, and because I remember when it came out in 1965, I figured the Stones’ “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” was the best rock song there ever was. But since I’ve never stopped listening to music, other songs have crept into my psyche and made me reconsider its spot at the top. I haven’t come to dislike it. But I need to partner it with other just-as-deserving numbers in a “top ten” category (although all ten entries have yet to be assigned). The criteria seems to be a song that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up and also makes me want to turn it up whenever I hear it. As of today, they are “Satisfaction”, “You Really Got Me” (The Kinks), “Smells Like Teen Spirit” (Nirvana), “Hot For Teacher” (Van Halen) and “Ace of Spades” (Motorhead).
